A tragic plane crash in Nairobi, Kenya has resulted in the deaths of six individuals. The aircraft belonged to AMREF Flying Doctors, a medical charity organization.
The Cessna plane, operated by AMREF Flying Doctors, crashed shortly after taking off from Wilson Airport on Thursday afternoon. Its destination was Hargeisa, Somalia. The crash occurred in the Githurai area of Nairobi, where the plane impacted a residential building and burst into flames.
Kiambu County Commissioner Henry Wafula confirmed that all six people on board perished in the crash. These included medical professionals such as doctors and nurses, as well as the pilot.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority reported that the plane lost both radio and radar contact with air traffic control just three minutes after takeoff. The Kenya Defence Forces and the National Police Service are conducting search and recovery operations at the scene.
Patricia Kombo, an eyewitness, recounted hearing a loud bang and seeing a red flash before witnessing smoke and people running and screaming.
In a separate incident, a train collided with a bus near Naivasha town in central Kenya, resulting in at least four fatalities.
