A wave of violence swept through Chicago's South Austin neighborhood early Sunday, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The incidents unfolded across three separate shootings within a three-hour timeframe.
Mass Shooting on North La Cross Avenue
The first incident, a mass shooting on North La Cross Avenue, claimed the life of a 22-year-old woman and left five others wounded. Police responded to the scene at approximately 2:48 am.
The victims included two 18-year-old males, a 17-year-old male, and two 29-year-old adults. One of the 18-year-olds is in critical condition.
Earlier Shooting on North Lamon Avenue
Prior to the mass shooting, police responded to a shooting on North Lamon Avenue, where a 20-year-old woman sustained gunshot wounds. She is reported to be in good condition.
Later Incident Claims Another Life
A separate incident later occurred, resulting in the death of an 18-year-old male and injuries to another teen. Police are investigating whether the shootings are connected.
Authorities are actively investigating the motive and potential connections between the shootings. The violence follows a similar mass shooting in Baltimore, Maryland.
