Congressman Subramanyam Urges FBI Probe into Potential Epstein File Tampering

Indian American Congressman Suhas Subramanyam has sounded the alarm regarding the integrity of recently released Jeffrey Epstein files. In a pointed letter to FBI Director Kash Patel, Subramanyam has demanded immediate action to safeguard these crucial documents and launch a thorough investigation into widespread allegations of political interference or potential tampering.

Concerns Over Executive Influence

As an active member of the House Oversight Committee, Congressman Subramanyam articulates the deep-seated apprehension shared by numerous Democrats concerning President Trump's perceived involvement in the management and disclosure of these highly sensitive records. His correspondence explicitly details fears of "tampering, destroying, or selectively releasing files," a concern amplified by the Department of Justice's contentious announcement to initiate probes into Democrats purportedly linked to Epstein.

"Concerning Anecdotal Reports" Fuel Suspicions

Subramanyam's urgent request is underpinned by a series of "concerning anecdotal reports." These include claims, initially highlighted by New India Abroad, suggesting that an acting deputy chief at the Department of Justice indicated that all Republican names were being redacted. Further substantiating these suspicions are statements from Mark Epstein, Jeffrey Epstein's brother, who alleged on NewsNation that Trump administration officials were actively "scrubbing the files to take Republican names out." He furthermore linked the Justice Department's shift in approach to deliberate sabotage of the original documents.

"Such reports do little to inspire confidence in a complete and impartial release of all Epstein files, irrespective of the political affiliations of those named," Subramanyam firmly stated. He underscored the fundamental right of victims and their families to receive "full justice and accountability."

Demands for Transparency and Security

To ensure clarity and address these critical issues, Subramanyam has set a deadline for the FBI to respond by the weekend. His specific inquiries include:

  • Identification of the individual or entity ultimately responsible for redacting and approving modifications to the files.
  • Confirmation regarding whether Attorney General Bondi had physical possession of these documents earlier this year.
  • A detailed explanation of the specific security protocols currently in place at the FBI’s Central Records Complex.

Additionally, the Congressman has requested an in-person inspection of the Winchester facility, or any other location where relevant files might be stored. He has also posed a direct question concerning whether any Epstein-related records have been accessed, altered, or otherwise tampered with since January 20, the date marking Trump's assumption of office for his second term.

Legislative Action and Ongoing Commitment

This latest intervention by Congressman Subramanyam follows his previous statements made after the House successfully passed legislation mandating the Justice Department to release all unclassified Epstein-related documents within 30 days. This pivotal bill garnered unanimous consent in the Senate and was officially signed into law by President Donald Trump on November 19. The Justice Department has publicly affirmed its commitment to comply with "maximum transparency."

Subramanyam had previously emphasized the paramount need for accountability and transparency after his vote to release the Epstein files. He highlighted, "While we already have the files released by the Epstein Estate, the FBI and DOJ are sitting on tens of thousands more." He powerfully asserted that "the brave survivors, and the American people, deserve the truth. For too long, powerful and rich people have evaded accountability for their association with Jeffrey Epstein." As a dedicated member of the House Oversight Committee, he has pledged to continue his collaborative efforts with colleagues to conduct a comprehensive investigation, ultimately holding those responsible for heinous crimes against young girls accountable.
