A Miraculous Awakening: Thai Woman Found Alive Moments Before Cremation
A truly astonishing incident unfolded in Thailand when a 65-year-old woman, presumed deceased and prepared for cremation, was discovered to be alive inside her coffin. The extraordinary event, which startled staff at a Buddhist temple, occurred in Nonthaburi province, just outside the capital city of Bangkok.
From Apparent Death to Faint Knocking
The woman's brother had undertaken a somber 500-kilometer (300-mile) journey from Phitsanulok province, bringing his sister to Wat Rat Prakhong Tham, a temple known for its free cremation services. He believed she had passed away two days prior, after being bedridden for approximately two years and appearing to stop breathing. However, as temple manager Pairat Soodthoop was discussing the necessary death certificate with the distraught brother, a faint but distinct knocking emanated from the coffin.
"I was a bit surprised, so I asked them to open the coffin, and everyone was startled," recounted Pairat Soodthoop. "I saw her opening her eyes slightly and knocking on the side of the coffin. She must have been knocking for quite some time." A video shared on the temple's Facebook page captured the bewildering scene: the woman lying in a white coffin within a pick-up truck, faintly moving her arms and head, confirming the unimaginable.
A Twist of Fate and a Medical Diagnosis
Before arriving at the temple, the brother had attempted to fulfill his sister's wish to donate her organs, bringing her to a Bangkok hospital. However, without an official death certificate, the hospital regrettably could not accept his offer. Similarly, the temple initially had to refuse the cremation service for the same reason, leading to the crucial conversation during which the miraculous knocking was heard.
Following the incredible discovery, an emergency rescue team swiftly transported the elderly woman to a nearby hospital. Doctors later diagnosed her with severe hypoglycaemia, a critically low blood sugar level, confirming that she had not experienced cardiac or respiratory failure. This medical insight shed light on her state, explaining her apparent unresponsiveness.
Temple Steps In to Support
In a compassionate gesture, the abbot of Wat Rat Prakhong Tham announced that the temple would cover the woman's medical expenses. This act of kindness ensures that she receives the necessary care after her extraordinary return from the brink.
The incident stands as a poignant reminder of life's unpredictable nature and the importance of thorough medical confirmation, even in the most seemingly certain of circumstances.
