Israeli security forces launched a significant military operation in the West Bank city of Tubas on Wednesday, marking the latest in an extended series of incursions across the northern West Bank. The operation saw some Palestinian residents instructed to vacate their homes.

Details of the Incursion

Tubas Governor Ahmed Al-Asaad provided Reuters with insights, confirming that Israeli troops, bolstered by a helicopter that opened fire, had effectively encircled the city. Forces were observed establishing strategic footholds across various neighborhoods.

"This appears to be a prolonged incursion," Al-Asaad commented. He added, "Israeli forces have compelled people to leave their homes, commandeered the rooftops of buildings, and are conducting arrests throughout the area." Scenes included Israeli military vehicles traversing the city, with soldiers carrying rifles and rocket launchers patrolling the streets. Similar troop activity was also reported in the adjacent town of Tammun.

Official Justification and Scope

Regarding the rationale behind the operation, Israeli government spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian informed reporters that security forces were acting decisively to thwart what she termed "terrorist activity." The Israeli military further clarified that the operation, a joint effort with police and intelligence agencies, began early Wednesday morning. A military spokesperson refrained from offering additional comments on the ongoing mission.

Governor Al-Asaad also highlighted that those displaced by the Israeli forces were given strict orders not to return to their residences until the conclusion of the operation.
