Travelers passing through Tokyo's Haneda Airport Terminal 2 on the morning of November 28 faced significant inconvenience as a staggering up to 70 percent of restrooms were found to be out of order, with flushing mechanisms failing across numerous facilities. This widespread malfunction prompted immediate action from the building operator, Japan Airport Terminal.
Upon discovering the problem, which an airport employee reported around 5 AM, Japan Airport Terminal initiated efforts to resolve the issue affecting the terminal’s 144 restrooms. Acknowledging the immediate impact on passengers, the company swiftly put up posters to notify the public and directed them to use employee restrooms as an interim solution.
The precise cause of the extensive toilet malfunction remains under active investigation by the authorities. This incident recalls a previous operational challenge at the terminal in 2019, when the water supply was severely compromised due to salt contamination, leading to a temporary shutdown.
As inquiries continue, the focus remains on swiftly restoring full functionality to all restrooms and understanding the root cause to prevent future occurrences, ensuring high standards of public hygiene and convenience at one of Japan's busiest international gateways.
