Afghan National Arrested in Texas for Suicide Attack Threat Amid Rising US Security Concerns

The United States Justice Department has announced the arrest of an Afghan national in Texas, Mohammad Dawood Alokozay, on charges of threatening a suicide attack. This incident, along with another recent high-profile arrest, has ignited a renewed debate over US immigration policies concerning migrants from Afghanistan and prompted a strong reaction from the Trump administration.

Threats Unveiled: The Alokozay Case

Thirty-year-old Mohammad Dawood Alokozay, residing in Fort Worth, allegedly posted a video on November 23 across platforms like TikTok, X, and Facebook. In this disturbing footage, Alokozay reportedly praised the Taliban and explicitly threatened to carry out a suicide attack on American citizens. Attorney-General Pamela Bondi highlighted that Alokozay allegedly stated his intent to enter the US specifically to harm Americans during the Biden administration. Thanks to swift public reporting, the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force successfully apprehended Alokozay, preventing potential violence, as confirmed by FBI Dallas special agent-in-charge Joseph Rothrock. If convicted of making a threatening interstate communication, he could face up to five years in prison.

Fatal Shooting Near White House: The Lakanwal Incident

Alokozay's arrest closely follows another alarming event: the shooting of two National Guard members near the White House in Washington a week prior. This attack tragically resulted in the death of one soldier. Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with this incident. Lakanwal had previously served with a CIA-backed "partner force" fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan and entered the United States through a resettlement program after the 2021 US military withdrawal.

Trump Administration's Stance on Afghan Migrants

In response to these critical incidents, President Donald Trump declared on November 30 his administration's intention to "pause asylum decisions for a long time." Expressing deep concern, he stated on social media, "We don’t want those people," signaling a potential crackdown on Afghan migrants and a significant shift in asylum policy. The ongoing developments underscore growing national security concerns and the complex challenges associated with resettlement programs.
