Mexican Immigrant Details ICE Assault in Minnesota

A Mexican immigrant alleges brutal treatment by ICE officers during an unlawful arrest in Minnesota, resulting in serious injuries.

Alberto Castañeda Mondragón, a 31-year-old Mexican immigrant, has alleged that he was brutally beaten by US ICE officers during his arrest in Minnesota last month.

The incident occurred on January 8th outside a shopping center in St. Paul, where Castañeda Mondragón was pulled from a friend’s car and assaulted without provocation.

According to the survivor, ICE officers handcuffed him, punched him, and used a steel baton to strike his head before dragging him into an SUV for transport to a detention facility. The assault continued upon arrival, causing multiple skull fractures and brain hemorrhages.

Castañeda Mondragón, who has no criminal record, denies claims by ICE that he ‘ran headfirst into a brick wall.’ He asserts that officers used an ASP baton to inflict his injuries, not a wall.

Medical reports confirmed eight skull fractures and five brain hemorrhages, further corroborating his account. A federal judge later ruled the arrest unlawful, ordering Castañeda Mondragón’s release from ICE custody.

Local officials, including Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her, have called for an investigation into the incident and demanded accountability from ICE officers.

Castañeda Mondragón plans to file a complaint and continues to suffer from memory loss, balance issues, and lingering trauma, making it difficult for him to work or function normally.

His experience has left him with lasting fear and a sense of injustice, emphasizing the need for reform in immigration enforcement practices.
