USFK commander expresses regret over late notification of air drills near the West Sea, leading to a rare standoff with Chinese jets.
The commander of the U.S. Forces Korea (USFK), Gen. Xavier Brunson, has expressed regret that top Korean officials were not informed in time about a recent U.S. Air Force exercise that led to a rare standoff with Chinese fighter jets over the West Sea. The incident occurred during a routine training operation involving approximately 10 F-16 fighter jets from USFK. Chinese military jets responded to the situation but no clash happened. Following the incident, Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back lodged a complaint with Gen. Brunson regarding the lack of advance notice, prompting the U.S. military to cut short the exercise.
