A wildfire destroyed the historic Grand Canyon Lodge and other buildings. The North Rim is closed for the 2025 season, but the South Rim remains open.
A devastating wildfire has engulfed the area near the Grand Canyon, resulting in the destruction of several structures, including the historic Grand Canyon Lodge located on the North Rim.
The Dragon Bravo Fire, along with the White Sage Fire, has scorched tens of thousands of acres, leading to the closure of the North Rim for the entire 2025 tourist season. Arizona authorities are battling to contain the blazes.
The Grand Canyon Lodge, situated at approximately 8,000ft, had been a landmark since the 1930s, offering lodging, dining, and other amenities. Aramark, the lodge operator, expressed their devastation but confirmed the safe evacuation of all employees and guests.
While there have been no reported injuries, the Dragon Bravo Fire has reportedly destroyed between 50 and 80 buildings. A chlorine leak at a nearby water treatment facility forced temporary firefighter evacuations. The White Sage Fire has impacted over 40,000 acres of the Kaibab National Forest, leading to further evacuations. Lightning is suspected as the cause of both fires.
The South Rim of the Grand Canyon remains open to visitors.
