Costco customers report funds vanishing from Shop cards. Frustrated customers seek refunds as Costco offers limited details. Consumer advocate criticizes respon
Customers of Costco are reporting a troubling issue: their digital 'Shop cards' have been mysteriously drained of funds. The big-box retailer has released limited information regarding the problem.
Shelly Xu of Perth, Ontario, discovered approximately $200 missing from her card in late June. She expressed her frustration, stating, "[I] checked my balance and was shocked to find that there were zero dollars on there."
Xu regularly uses Shop cards as Costco does not accept her Visa. She has spent hours trying to resolve the issue without success.
CBC News found dozens of complaints on social media and Costco's website, with affected customers reporting losses between $150 and $1,000.
While some customers received refunds, others were denied, and Xu's case remains unresolved.
Consumer advocate Daniel Tsai criticizes Costco for not addressing the problem publicly, stating it's a failure in marketing and damages customer trust. He urges Costco to acknowledge the issue and take corrective action.
