Oshawa Police Apprehend Suspect in Multi-Home Assault Investigation

Oshawa, Ontario – Durham Regional Police have announced the arrest of a 28-year-old man in connection with a series of alarming home invasions and sexual assaults that occurred on November 11. Mohamed Basil Lafir is currently facing a multitude of charges following incidents across three separate residences in Oshawa.

Details of the Disturbing Incidents

According to police reports, the disturbing spree began when authorities received multiple calls regarding a man entering homes and exposing himself. The initial incident saw Lafir allegedly breach the security of one residence, where he exposed himself to the occupants. His actions were reportedly cut short when he was startled by a dog on the premises, prompting him to flee the scene.

Undeterred, the suspect then targeted a second home located on the same street. Here, the situation escalated significantly as Lafir is accused of sexually assaulting the homeowner who confronted him. Following this violent encounter, he once again made his escape.

His rampage continued as he allegedly entered a third home. In this final reported incident, Lafir is accused of sexually assaulting an older female victim who was in her bed. He subsequently exited this residence by fleeing through a bedroom window.

Arrest and Charges Laid

Durham Regional Police officers swiftly responded to the area, successfully locating Mohamed Basil Lafir and taking him into custody without further incident. Investigations revealed that Lafir does not possess a fixed address.

He has been formally charged with several serious offences, including: multiple counts of break and enter, committing an indecent act, forcible confinement, and two counts of sexual assault. Following his arrest, he was held for a bail hearing.
