High-Risk Fugitive Nicholas Singh, One of Canada's Most Wanted, Captured in Toronto
The intensive manhunt for Nicholas Singh, a 24-year-old of Indian origin and one of Canada's 25 most wanted criminals, culminated in a dramatic arrest in Toronto. Singh, who held the 15th spot on the BOLO (Be On the Lookout) program’s high-profile list, was apprehended after being identified inside a vehicle, ending his year-long evasion of law enforcement.
Singh had been unlawfully at large, having breached his parole conditions while serving a five-year, five-month, and ten-day sentence for serious robbery and firearm-related convictions. A Canada-wide warrant had been issued for his arrest, and the Toronto Police confirmed his capture, emphasizing the breach of his parole.
Arrest Unfolds Without Incident, Weapons Seized
The apprehension of Nicholas Singh occurred without resistance. Toronto Police officers, acting on a crucial tip received on a Friday, successfully located him within a suspicious vehicle. During the arrest, authorities made a significant discovery: a firearm, an extended magazine, and ammunition were found inside the vehicle. The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad, which had been actively monitoring Singh's high-risk case, played a pivotal role in providing the intelligence that led to the successful operation.
Facing a Host of New Charges
Following his capture, Nicholas Singh is now confronted with an array of fresh charges, reflecting the gravity of the items found and his actions while at large:
- Possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without holding a licence and registration certificate.
- Possession of a firearm (other than restricted or prohibited) knowingly without holding a licence.
- Possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon or prohibited device knowing no authority.
- Occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm.
- Possession of a loaded regulated firearm.
- Possession of a firearm with an altered serial number.
Other Indian-Origin Fugitives on the BOLO List
Singh's arrest brings renewed attention to the BOLO program's ongoing efforts to track down other significant fugitives. The current list includes two other individuals of Indian origin:
- Gurkirat Singh (26): Wanted by the Delta Police in connection with an alleged sexual assault case dating back to 2024.
- Dharam Singh Dhaliwal: Sought in relation to the 2022 murder of Pawanpreet Kaur, another Indian-origin individual who was tragically shot multiple times at her workplace, a gas station.
The successful arrest of Nicholas Singh underscores the persistent dedication of Canadian law enforcement agencies and the efficacy of programs like BOLO in bringing high-risk offenders to justice. While Singh now faces new legal proceedings, the hunt for other individuals on Canada's most wanted list continues.
